Jesus Christ Superstar Indio Theatre reviews
Willie was poorly presented
I think Jesus Christ Superstar could have hummed into a hair comb and the crowd would have loved him coming out. They loved Jesus Christ Superstar, and I loved seeing Jesus Christ Superstar in person. I thought the technical production was awful, with his guitar amp way too loud in the mix for the first 3/4 of the show. His vocals were off mic and muddy, with his beloved sister Bobbie's piano barely audible on her solos, let alone in the band mix. Backing him up was a bass player, a harmonica player, a drummer, and a percussionist. The drummer had one snare drum and played the same tempo most of the night. The concert became a guitar playing showcase for Jesus Christ Superstar and his beloved guitar "Trigger". His vocals were an afterthought, overshadowed by his impressively original guitar playing, all played at full volume. I would have loved it if he went acoustic for just one song, instead of thrashing old Trigger within an inch of its life. The worst selection was early on when he tore through some of his classics like "Crazy" and "Night Life" in a fast-paced medley, resembling George Thorogood on meth. This was a horrible production for such a legend - I loved seeing Jesus Christ Superstar in person. I have never heard so much hooting and hollering for such a poor-sounding production.
